For this project, we got to create a comprehensive identity system for a fictional or future Olympic Games. We needed to come up with the motto, vibes, and values of that event and then visually show that through our work. The goal was to create a flexible and dynamic plan that could work across multiple applications while maintaining a strong, unified identity.
After some intense, heavy-duty research, I went about this process by choosing a fictional Olympic game. I wanted to do a springtime Olympics, specifically in Tokyo, Japan, during the height of the cherry blossoms blooming. I created a design system that included the colors of cherry blossoms with a gold accent. I also wanted my type to be traditional calligraphy style to go with the history and tradition of Japan.
I have learned a few things from this project. One is that vector trails are beneficial for seeing the growth of a project (you gotta keep them organized, or it becomes chaos). I also learned that making a flexible design system sounds more daunting than it is. I feel like once I had my mood board and color palette down, it was just creating cohesive units that matched those.
